That Uneasy Feeling Of Having A Cop Behind You
Last night as I exited the parking lot of one of my favorite restaurants, Sorrentos, on Westheimer Road a police officer started following me. Initially, I did not give it a second thought. I had one drink, a full meal, appetizer, entree, dessert, and coffee, so I was not concerned at first. Nevertheless, I started thinking about my clients over the years that were stopped after similar circumstances. The next thing I know he continued following me after I made my left turn towards my home. At this point, I started to ponder the possibility of being stopped by the cop. It is July 4th "No Refusal Weekend" in one of the busiest areas of town in Harris County. What would I say to the officer if he started asking me questions about where I was and if I was drinking? I was getting ready for the stop despite the fact that I knew that I would not commit a traffic violation under these circumstances. Luckily, I was near my home so the officer stopped following me once I turned onto the street that leads to my house. While getting ready for bed I could not help thinking how it must feel like for someone that does not have any experience in dealing with the police outside of a traffic stop much less a DWI.
