The DWI Explanation Letter
I came across a blog entry detailing how a lawyer can provide a letter for a prospective employer with details surrounding a DWI case. The purpose of this is to give an explanation to the person looking over the application. Frankly, I find this to be useless. Once an employer knows about the DWI there is no need to hire a lawyer to explain that you received a conviction, with fines and probation. That information is already available to the person conducting the background check. Most employers understand that a DWI can happen to anyone especially knowing the attitude that the police has towards DWI enforcement. Gone are the days that a police officer stops someone, takes their keys if the are drunk, and then calls a cab to take them home. If I was hiring someone I would not want a letter from their attorney telling me the facts surrounding their case. My main concern would be if I hire this person would this happen again. A letter from the attorney is not going persuade me. Instead of thinking that an explanation from your lawyer is going to help you go to trial and try to beat the DWI charges.
